“Being process-oriented, not product-driven, is the most important and difficult skill for a designer to develop.”

Being process-oriented is something that schools have a hard time doing. That is probably why designers have difficulty learning the skill—they must first unlearn what has been driven into them during their youth in traditional educational environments.

The quote comes from a page in 101 Things I Learned in Architecture School, by Matthew Frederick as photographed by Nicolas Nova. He has posted several pages together on his blog. Another page that I like is “Just do something.”

Update: Further thoughts on process, design, and education, are now posted in “A Note for Frank Chimero.”
